The last two weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of activity of which stories are written and movies are made. I've done and seen more in these two weeks than I have in the last 8 years. It's now after all that I want to share the adventure.
First, I want to thank all of my friends for being there for and with me during the chaos. After thirty-two years I've come to understand the value of real friends and the importance of the work it takes to be and have a friend:
"[Friendships] redoubleth joys and cutteth griefs in halves. For there is no man that imparteth his joys to his friend, but he joyeth the more; and no man that imparteth his griefs to his friend, but he grieveth the less."
- Francis Bacon (1561-1626)
As is my fashion, I set myself to a full blaze for this adventure and have been reborn yet again with the benefit of my previous knowledge and the newest understandings. For all of my previous moves a special occasion always marked the beginning of the new and the end of the old. From home to Florida it was the end of the longest winter in recorded history. From Florida to Memphis it was a birthday and a concert with Korn opening for Rob Zombie. With more providence than planning I celebrated my last unofficial weekend in Memphis at the Collierville firework show:
The next day was dinner with my roommate of 7 years and his family:
Saturday night at T minus 12 hours I held the bbq of doom with a group of people I would consider to be the best on Earth... and Chris and Stephanie:
Beware das boob-grabber! She grab da boobs!
6 a.m. came WAY too soon! I was on the road and ready for the long journey. Happy to be going and sad to be leaving.
In my CD player was a previously created playlist with this song that played as I started the car out of the driveway:
LED ZEPPELIN - Ramble on
Leaves are falling all around,
Its time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, Im much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.
But now its time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And its headed my way.
Ah, sometimes I grow so tired,
But I know Ive got one thing I got to do,
Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
Got no time to for spreadin roots,
The time has come to be gone.
And tho our health we drank a thousand times,
Its time to ramble on.
Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
I aint tellin no lie.
Mines a tale that cant be told,
My freedom I hold dear;
How years ago in days of old
When magic filled the air,
Twas in the darkest depths of mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But gollum, and the evil one crept up
And slipped away with her.
Her, her....yea.
Aint nothing I can do, no.
Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
Gonna ramble on, sing my song
Gotta keep-a-searchin for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world
I cant stop this feelin in my heart
Gotta keep searchin for my baby
I cant find my bluebird!
Id listen to my bluebird sing but I cant find my blue bird
A-keep-a ramblin baby...
The sun outside of Tupelo, 78 to Birmingham, me getting bored, ALABAMA SIR!, it's raining again, a pig, look at the 30th cop, the 40th and the 50th in the RAIN, :
FINALLY after 10 hours!!
I got to the hotel around 10:30ish and immediately went to bed. I had to be at work at 7 the next morning and had a 40 minute commute for the entire week. I saw the apartment on Monday afternoon and fell in love instantly. Sadly, the first pictures were taken with a piss-poor setting on the camera and can't do it justice. This picture however is one I'm proud of. It's from my garage door facing East:
This place is really amazing and is exactly what I wanted for my first living alone experience.
And now a public service announcement or two:
A week later I was picking up the keys, getting electricity and setting up internet service. I left for Tampa to spend the night with my friend and moving buddy. We left Tampa at 4:00 a.m. with an empty Kia van and a 4' x 6' trailer attached. We made great time getting to Memphis with little to no bumps along the way. My final meal in Memphis was to be Rendezvous with Mike, Shannon, Cypress ... and Eric. I was really fucking cranky from lack of sleep, yet apparently still tolerable enough for my guests to not want to choke the living shit out of me. Prior to dinner Mike and I loaded the van:
We made decent time getting back and unloaded the van and trailer as quickly as we could. We had to drive back to Tampa to get home and to pick up my car for the drive back. Just outside of Tampa on I-4 there was a traffic jam from an accident where a Dodge Stratus got into a fight with a gas truck. Gas truck won. I didn't get to bed until 2:00 a.m. and had to be at work at 7:00 that morning. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Throughout the week I've been unpacking as I could. I miss my friends and I've been talking with them as I and they are available.
Funny enough, the place stills looks like that after a week of unpacking.
And yes, I have THIS view:
To all of my friends that have laughed and cried with, for, or at me; I offer these words which are far better than my own:
Green Day - Time Of Your Life
Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test
and don't ask why.
It's not a question
but a lesson learned in time.
It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.
Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.
Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial.
For what it's worth,
it was worth all the while.
It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
(music break)
It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.Feeling: calm I be listening to: Bonham: Change Of A Season |
